Fairmont Junior High School has again been selected as a National AVID College Readiness Demonstration School. AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities. Established more than 35 years ago with one teacher in one classroom, AVID today impacts nearly 1.5 million students in 46 states and 16 other countries/territories. AVID officials visited Fairmont on November 10, 2016 to evaluate the school's AVID program. After a day long evaluation process, AVID officials announced that Fairmont's AVID program has been re-validated through 2019 as an AVID National Demonstration School. This is the second such national re-validation earned by the school.
"None of this is possible without the incredible support we receive from everyone involved - students, parents, staff and district support," said Fairmont Principal Brian Walker. "We have an amazing district to work in and we love what we do! Thank you for giving us an incredible platform for Educating Today for a Better Tomorrow!"
